Existing MPs Salary, Allowances and Benefits Stand Until Vote: Fiji Parliament

Until the vote is taken, existing monetary provisions outlined in the Parliamentary Remunerations Act 2014 and Parliamentary Retirement Allowances Act 1989 will remain in force and will be implemented as usual, Fiji Parliament says.

In a statement, the country’s legislature says the emoluments committee, chaired by Lynda Tabuya, is still doing its work of reviewing and making recommendations on the salaries, allowances, and benefits of Members of Parliament, the President, and the Speaker, as well as the Parliamentary Retirement Allowances Act 1989.

It will then present its recommendations in a report to be debated and voted upon by parliament during a later sitting.

The emoluments committee was directed to carry out the work via a resolution passed in the August House on 11 September 2023.

The committee also includes Ro Filipe Tuisawau, Aseri Radrodro, as well as opposition MPs Alvick Maharaj, and Mosese Bulitavu.
