An investigation is currently in progress regarding the tragic death of a 2-year and 8-month-old child over the weekend.
The child was at a settlement in Valelevu with her mother around midday yesterday when the incident happened.
The mother was washing clothes using a 44-gallon drum that had been cut in half and filled with water. At some point, the mother left her child unattended as she went to the washroom. Upon her return, she found her child floating face down in the half-cut 44-gallon drum.
The child was take to the Valelevu Health Centre. She was pronounced dead upon arrival.
