Fiji’s Ministry of Health announced 350 cases overnight – 242 in the West and 108 in the central – and 23 deaths over four days, with 20 of the deaths recorded in the western division and three in the central.
Of the 23 victims – 9 are women and 14 men – aged between 43 and 85 years, twelve (12) were unvaccinated and 11 partially, having received their first doses.
Of the unvaccinated 12, five were declared dead upon arriving at a health facility, four died at home and two died between five and 16 days after their admission at a health facility. Of those who have received at least one jab of the vaccine, three were declared dead upon arrival, one died at home, one died on the same day of their admission and six died within one and five days of their admission.

With the newly reported deaths, Fiji has had 394 deaths due to COVID-19, with 392 of these happening during the outbreak that started in April this year. The national 7-day rolling average of COVID-19 deaths per day is eight. The 7-day rolling average of COVID-19 deaths in the Central Division is 5 and in the western division, 3.
There have also been 208 deaths involving COVID-19 positive patients but whose deaths have been attributed to serious medical conditions that they had before they contracted COVID-19
