System to develop into tropical cyclone, poses no threat to Fiji

April 4, 2022

A tropical disturbance located to the West of Vanuatu has a high chance of developing into a tropical cyclone in the next 24 to 48 hours.

Numbered 10F or TD10F, the system Fiji’s Meteorological Services says is expected to directly affect New Caledonia, but unlikely to pose any direct threat to Fiji.

Nevertheless, isolated heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Fiji from tomorrow, stemming from a trough of low pressure anticipated to develop to the northeast of Fiji and move south over the group, affecting parts of the country until Wednesday.

The trough is anticipated to bring clouds and showers over Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Lau and Lomaiviti group, Naitasiri and Ra province, the interior of Serua/Namosi, the greater Suva, Nausori, and Tailevu area.

Meanwhile, cloudy conditions with afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms are expected over the rest of the group.

Showers are anticipated to gradually ease from the north on Wednesday.
