Woman, 102, possibly Fiji’s oldest COVID-19 victim

A 102-year-old woman is possibly Fiji’s oldest COVID-19 victim; one of 15 new deaths recently announced in the country’s latest update in which 918 new coronavirus infections were also confirmed.

According to the Ministry of Health, the woman died at her Cunningham home and was not vaccinated; one of 10 who died of similar nature.

Two other unvaccinated deceased – a 44-year-old man from Cunningham and a 72-year-old woman from Narere – made it to a health facility in severe respiratory distress and died on the same day.

Fiji’s total confirmed COVID-19 death tally stands at 161, of which 159 died since the April outbreak.

Tally for deaths of COVID-19 positive patients said to have been caused by pre-existing conditions, has increased to 68 after seven more were announced this evening.

Total recoveries now stand at 4,729 after 179 patients reportedly recovered overnight resulting in 16,403 active cases to date.

With the 918 new infections, the majority of which were reported from health facilities and screening clinics, Fiji’s coronavirus cases since the April outbreak increases to 21,291 and 21,361 since the first case in March 2020.
