Fiji’s Water Authority has lifted water restrictions imposed in the Lami-Suva-Nausori areas which means usage of water for previously restricted activities in these areas including car washing can resume.

In a statement, WAF CEO Dr Amit Chanan said that extreme dry weather conditions no longer affect the authority’s raw water sources.

“Based on the steady rain and healthy raw water level at our sources, we are able to decide on lifting the water restrictions that were in effect in the Lami-Suva-Nausori areas,” Dr Chanan said.

He thanked residents for complying with the prohibition notice, dating back to April 9 this year, which he said helped reduce the demand for water during a time when the supply capacity was limited.

Customers are now allowed to use water for watering plants and gardens, irrigation of new turf, topping up swimming pools, and washing hard surfaces like driveways and footpaths.

However, Dr Chanan reiterated the importance of continued water conservation and mindful water usage due to the forecasted dry weather conditions until October.
