3 charged as fourth suspect in Labasa death case awaits medical

Three people in their late 30s accused of their involvement in the death of a 49-year-old man from Korotari 11 days ago appeared before a magistrates court in Labasa today.

The first accused, Shumenda Chandra, aged 27 was charged with one count of assault causing actual bodily harm and conspiracy. The second accused, Muqtadeer Saif Kaiyum also 27 was charged with one count of conspiracy while the third accused, 26-year-old Joji Bale has been charged with one count of conspiracy.

They appeared before Magistrate Bimsara Jagodage and were remanded in custody until 30 June. The case has been transferred to the Labasa High Court.

Meanwhile, a fourth suspect is yet to be questioned as he is scheduled to be escorted to Suva for medical treatment.

The 58-year-old will be questioned by investigators once medical clearance is given.
