Staff to be moved as ministry awaits report on patient-care incident

Fiji’s Ministry of Health and Medical Services is awaiting a report from the Naitasiri Subdivision on allegations of poor patient management at the Waidina Health Centre that came to light in a social media post recently.

In the meantime, arrangements are being made to temporarily move the staff concerned to another hospital as well as ensure daily operations continue at the health centre.

The incident was posted on the social media site Facebook less than 24 hours ago by a woman who was concerned about how her 78-year-old mother was treated when she sought help at the Waidina Health Centre last week.

“The Ministry will take appropriate action on the alleged incident once the report is received.”

It also made reassurances to the public that it was fully committed to its role to provide safe and accessible health service to the people “and takes allegations of poor customer care seriously.”
