Police destroy 5-tonnes of marijuana plants in Kadavu

Fiji Police this morning destroyed more than 81,000 marijuana plants that were kept as exhibits from raids carried out on Kadavu between 2018 and 2021.

Weighing 5-tonne, the plants were burnt in an incinerator at the Kadavu Police Station after approval for their disposal was sought from a magistrates court in Suva.

Police Commissioner Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho who is also in Kadavu reiterated the organisation’s intentions to destroy all hard drugs kept as exhibits when court approvals are acquired.

By tightening up these processes, Brig-Gen Qiliho says will ensure officers will not be tempted to take out drugs kept as exhibits and ensures the handling of illicit substances is done in a transparent and accountable manner.
