3 new Muanikoso cases prompt closure as authorities lift lockdown in Makoi, and Ra

Three more cases have been recorded in Muanikoso, Nasinu prompting the lockdown of the area by Fijian authorities who also announced that it would lift lockdown orders imposed in certain areas of Makoi and Ra tomorrow morning.

All three new cases are linked to the five cases recorded in the area yesterday – one of them a household member while two others are from an adjoining home.

The Ministry of Health said the close proximity of the two households suggests there was contact at some point, and before the index household began their home quarantine on 11 May. The lockdown, authorities say is to gauge the extent of the transmission, based on the movement of the neighbouring household, particularly the two positive individuals, who were not under home-quarantine orders.

As with other lockdown areas, the conditions are that no one residing in the area leaves.

Authorities have also identified 29 contacts of case 190 (security company driver) linked to the Vunimono/Nadali cluster. None of the contacts tested positive for coronavirus.

As at 4am tomorrow, the lockdown areas of Makoi in Nasinu, Naira in Rakiraki, Dokonavatu, Nanukuloa and Naiserelagi in Ra will be lifted, after having not recorded a new case for more than 14 days.
