Mother Charged: Warning Issued on Child Welfare After Alleged Assault.

A 43-year-old woman, accused of assaulting her daughter while intoxicated, has been charged.

Fiji Police say the child sustained injuries as a result of the assault, marking the second such incident to surface within days. Earlier, a father assaulted a year 7 student in Nausori.

The incident has prompted authorities to issue a warning to parents and guardians, on the need to exercise due care as primary providers for their children.

The accused woman faces one count of Act with intent to cause bodily harm and is scheduled to appear at the Nasinu Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew, says that all reports and investigations of child abuse and victimisation will be prioritised to ensure those responsible are brought to justice, adding that “corporal punishment is illegal.”
