Lautoka Gears Up for Rugby Extravaganza – Skipper, Vanua, Ranadi plus Historic NRL Clash

Lautoka is in for a feast of rugby games come the 24th of this month with the Skipper Cup match between Yasawa and Naitasiri taking place after the women’s sides clash before that. On the main Churchill Park ground, the Melbourne Storms and New Castle Knights face off in Fiji’s first ever NRL game.

An exciting fixture for the Skipper Cup, Vodafone Vanua Cup and Royal Tea Ranadi competitions was today released by the Fiji Rugby Union.

The first round of games which kick off on February 24 will see giant slayers Ba travel to the capital city to play Suva, Nadi host Lautoka, Yasawa play Naitasiri, Nadroga travel to Labasa to play Macuata and Namosi host Tailevu at Thompson Park in Suva.

For the Vodafone Vanua Cup challenge, newcomers Kadavu travel to the highlands to play Navosa, Malolo play Serua, Bua hosts Cakaudrove, the boys from the garden island of Taveuni travel to Ra, Nasinu host Ovalau, Rewa take on Northern Bulls, Tavua play Vatukoula and Northland go head to head with Nanukuloa.

For the women, Suva face Navosa at HFC Stadium for the opening round of the Royal Tea Marama competition. Nadi hosts Lautoka, Yasawa take on Naitasiri at Churchill Park, Nasinu play Nadroga while Namosi face Tailevu in Navua.

Meanwhile, Fiji Rugby Union is on the hunt for a CEO. Yesterday, Australia based recruiting agency Global Elite Sports released the advertisement for the position. Applications for the post close on February 26.
