Morgan secures best place finish in day 2 of Tokyo Olympics Sailing

Team Fiji’s Sophia Morgan finished 35th in her heat four of her sailing event, her best place finish since the start of competition Sunday to maintain her 41st overall placing heading into the third day of competition today.

Morgan went into heat four having finished 41st in heat three where she was placed ahead of Egypt, Mozambique, Antigua. Fellow Pacific Islander in Papua New Guinea’s Rose-Lee Numa finished ahead of Morgan in this instance, at 40.

However, in heat four the 17-year-old stepped up her game to finish 35th and in doing so finished ahead of her better-ranked competitors from USA, Ireland, Peru, Mozambique, India, Croatia, Egypt, and Antigua. Numa brought up the tail end in that heat, finishing 44th.

Overall, Morgan remains 41st ahead of Egypt, PNG and Antigua. She has two more heats today – with competition starting at 3.05pm (Fiji Time)

This is Morgan’s first Olympics and she is the second-lowest ranked competitor in her Laser Radial event.
