Fiji beat Great Britain 33-7, face Australia in Cup Quarters

Asaeli Tuivuaka scored a try in each half in Fiji’s 5-try 33-7 victory over Great Britain in their final pool game of the Tokyo 7s to top their pool and set up a meeting with Australia in the final Cup quarterfinal fixture tonight.

Tuivuaka opened the scoring in the first half followed by Sireli Maqala before Jiuta Wainiqolo added Fiji’s third with five seconds from the breather to put Fiji in the lead 19-0.

The second half opened with Tuivuaka scoring within the opening minute before Ben Harris pulled back one. But it was Fiji that had the last say within seconds from full-time via Aminiasi Tuimaba to seal the victory. Four of Fiji’s tries were converted.

Fiji now awaits the results of the other matches to determine the seventh-best finisher from the pool.

Earlier, Canada defeated hosts Japan 36-12 and will await the matches as well to see if they earn a place in the Cup quarters.

The Cup quarters is scheduled to start at 8.30 pm today, and Fiji will feature in the last Cup quarterfinal match at 10 pm (All in Fiji Time).
