Fiji Police Still To Establish Motive: Man Behind Suva Police Station Attack

The man who attempted to set fire to Fiji’s central police station in Suva, Totogo, this morning is a 33-year-old self-employed resident of Raiwai, Fijian authorities confirm.

“This incident is an isolated one,” Minister for Defence Pio Tikoduadua said adding that they have yet to establish motives behind the attempt.

“Such acts of violence has no place in our society. We urge everyone to remain calm…and confident in our commitment to maintaining peace and security…and trust the process in place “

The man remains under police guard at the CWM where he is being treated for burns he sustained in the incident.

Authorities said he had thrown a lit-bottled filled with flammable liquid inside the Totogo Police Station, located in Suva’s CBD, resulting in damage to some equipment. He was apprehended by police as he tried to throw another bottle.

Police’s CID is leading the investigation into the incident.
