Fiji’s Permanent Secretary for Health Dr James Fong has confirmed to MaiTV that the ministry is certain that a suspected case in Labasa is a false positive.
He said such instances are known to happen worldwide, but is very rare.
“False positive is rare but known events with RT PCR for COVID tests,” Dr Fong said.
The sample of a suspected case in Labasa had initially registered a positive outcome, but two further re-tests of the same sample at the same lab generated negative results.
MaiTV has also confirmed that roadblocks that was earlier erected at the entrance to the house of the suspected COVID19 patient in Labasa has been uplifted. Just a while ago, police packed up gear and returned to Labasa police station.
Close contacts of the case who were quarantined and isolated tested negative as well. As in previous cases, contacts of suspected cases who register negative results are usually discharged.
