The Fiji Airways Fijian 7s team are traing in the country’s old capital city of Levuka as they prepare for the Dubai and Cape Town 7s tournaments.
Head coach Ben Gollings said they have taken to change their camp venue around in particular to different parts of Fiji in part to provide the players a different environment to train in as well as connect with the communities.
“It’s good to be in Levuka which has also helped with supporting the connection with the community and a totally new environment for the players to train,” Gollings said.
“We have had several training sessions at Nasau Park and it looks like the players are refreshed and very much focused for the next two legs of the Sevens Series.”
He further added that Levuka has no distractions and the focus is purely on training and connecting with the local community who hardly have a chance to see their 7s stars playing in front of them.
“We have also planned for a few communities and school visits. I think it’s also a great time to give back to the people of Levuka and an opportunity for them to meet and greet the sevens players” said Gollings.
Gollings said that he will be finalizing his traveling squad for Dubai and Cape Town 7s over the weekend.
“There may be some changes as we are nursing a few injuries to some of the players who were part of the Hong Kong 7s.
The majority of the squad will consist of the players who played in the Hong Kong 7s and if there is any injury we are making sure that we have cover for them” said Gollings.
The training camp in Levuka finishes tomorrow.
