Fiji records 28 COVID19 cases, highest daily count

Fiji recorded 28 new coronavirus cases today, the highest recorded for a single day since the first case in March 2020.

The new cases and four recoveries bring total active cases to 151, and all of which are within the Suva-Nausori containment zone.

Fifty-per cent of the cases today were recorded in Vunivivi, Nausori, seven are Fiji Navy personnel, four more from Muanikoso, two at the QEB in Nabua and one in Kinoya.

Investigations by the Health Ministry linked the Vunivivi cluster, index navy case and the Waila clusters to a funeral which is believed to have been the spreader event.

Of the cases announced today, all but the Kinoya case is still to be linked to earlier cases. The four from Muanikoso are primary contacts of earlier cases, likewise the two at QEB, the seven naval officers were identified as part of the contact tracing for the first naval officer who has been linked with the 14 reported today in Vunivivi.

Four (4) patients have recovered over the past 24 hours which means Fiji now has 151 active cases in isolation. Fiji has had 314 cases in total, with 159 recoveries and four deaths, since the first case was reported on 19 March 2020.
