COVID19 risk cancels Fiji parliamentary sitting indefinitely

A Fiji parliamentary staff has been identified as a primary contact of a COVID-19 positive case prompting the cancellation of the remainder of Fiji’s parliamentary sitting, beginning with today’s session.

This week’s sitting started Tuesday 25 May and was to continue through today, as well as next week, from Monday 31 May to Friday 4 June 2021.

“As a precautionary measure and upon the directive of the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, the Parliamentary precincts and offices will be closed with immediate effect until further notice,” Speaker Ratu Epeli Nailatikau said in an advisory issued this hour.

All Parliamentary business will resume upon advice and clearance from the Health Ministry.
