Fiji Police Detains Man at Nadi Airport for Alleged $38,000 Fraud Scheme

Fiji authorities have apprehended a 27-year-old man at Nadi Airport this week on charges of defrauding six individuals out of a total sum exceeding $38,000.

The suspect, identified as a former sales executive at a car and parts dealership, was taken into custody while attempting to board a flight out of Fiji.

Fiji Police Chief of Intelligence and Investigations Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sakeo Raikaci said that during his employment at the dealership from August 2021 to August 2022, the accused allegedly accepted payments from six customers and subsequently created sales and purchase agreements to acknowledge receipt of the funds. However, he reportedly deleted these documents from the company’s records later.

The incidents came to light when customers contacted the company inquiring about the non-delivery of their purchased goods.

The accused has been charged with six counts of theft and will appear before a magistrates court in Suva today.
