Fiji Elections: SoE rejects independent candidates’ nominations

Fiji’s Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem this morning rejected nominations from two (2) independent candidates that were filed earlier in the week.

In a statement, the Fijian Elections Office said their applications were declined because they failed to meet the minimum requirements as stipulated in Section 27 of the Electoral Act.

Aside from minimum requirements stipulated in Fiji’s Constitution, section 27 of the Electoral Act 2014 outlines that for independent candidates, submission of their nomination forms must accompany a deposit of $1,000, and a list of 1,000 supporters in the approved form. The last day for filing candidate nominations is 12 pm on 14 November 2022.
