Eight members of the Social Democratic Liberal Party including former Opposition Leader in Parliament Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu today resigned from the party, indicating their interest to contest Fiji’s forthcoming elections under the People’s Alliance banner.
Joining Ratu Naiqama are Ro Filipe Tuisawau, Mr Inosi Kuridrani, Ratu Antonio Lalabalavu, Mr Mitieli Bulanauca, Mr Peceli Vosanibola, Mr Tevita Navurelevu, and Mr Jese Saukuru.
In an interview with local media at the PA’s headquarters in Suva, Ro Filipe said they had been interviewed, and awaiting the outcome.
“We are awaiting confirmation in terms of our candidacy for the People’s Alliance party, and awaiting nomination as we move forward,” Ro Filipe said citing irreconcilable differences within their former party.
“We believe that moving forward our political objectives and what we stood for will be better served if we moved out of SODELPA and our intention to join the People’s Alliance party which will be confirmed by the leadership of People’s Alliance in the next few days.”
