Fiji Elections: FEO appoints new Deputy Supervisor of Elections

The Fijian Elections Office (FEO) has appointed Mr Robin Boyd as Deputy Supervisor of Elections (DSoE) for the 2022 General Election.

He replaces Mr Craig Rickards who fell ill after having held the role for less than six months.

His successor Mr Boyd boasts about the same number of years of experience of working with the FEO, having worked together since Fiji’s 2014 election.

In announcing the appointment Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem said: “Considering that the election can be announced any time, and since Craig had to return for medical attention, it was imperative that the DSoE position is duly filled.

“Mr Boyd has over 40 years of election experience from the Australian Electoral Commission and holds expertise in the areas of electoral administration, management of major electoral events, capacity building as well as staff mentoring.”

Mr Boyd served as the Director of Operations during the 2014 General Election in Fiji and has remained as a Senior Election Advisor to the FEO since 2015.

Apart from Australia, Mr Boyd has experience working in elections in countries such as Papua New Guinea, Cambodia and Namibia.

“The FEO team is pleased to have Mr Boyd on board and we look forward to his contribution to the 2022 General Election,” Mr Saneem said.

Correction: This article has been edited. The previous article had stated that Mr Rickards held the role for less than a week, when in fact it should be less than six months. He was appointed to the role late April this year. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
