Fiji will be represented in both the women’s and men’s competitions for the Pacific Games 2023, thanks to the national men’s team being awarded one of the wildcard entries.
The national men’s team did not make the cut in the qualifying tournament FIBA Melanesian Cup, having finished third in the competition, which was held in Fiji in late October this year, and had to wait it out for the wildcard selection to confirm their participation.
Fiji picked up the wildcard entry alongside Samoa, and hosts Solomon Islands. They join Guam which had qualified as FIBA Micronesian Cup Champions with FIBA Melanesian Cup Winner, New Caledonia qualifying alongside silver medallists, Papua New Guinea. FIBA Polynesian Cup gold medallists, Tahiti and silver medallists, Tonga round out the qualified men’s teams.
