Preparations for Fiji’s 2022 General Elections continue in earnest, particularly in raising awareness in grass root level communities regarding the conduct of elections.
In Suva recently, the Fijian Elections Office convened a Community Elections Advocate (CEA) Training of Trainers workshop for 17 participants from the 11 ‘Tikina’of the province of Lau.
Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem says the workshop is part of FEO’s Know Your Election Campaign which involves educating community leaders who will then spearhead ‘talanoa’ on elections and empowering members of their community to vote in the forthcoming elections.
At the conclusion of the training, participants become certified Community Elections Advocates and will conduct sessions creating awareness on elections with their communities in due course, the FEO said.
The Community Engagement Project is carried out by the FEO in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, forming phase two (2) of the FEO’s Know Your Election Campaign.
