Fiji reported 18 new deaths today all of whom unvaccinated including six who were declared dead on arrival (DOA) at a health facility, five died at home, and two made it to a health facility only to succumb to the virus the same day.
Five others died within five days of being admitted to a hospital including a 37-year-old woman of Lautoka who recently gave birth.
The six DOAs were among 11 recorded in the West whereas the five who died at home were among seven deaths reported in the central division.
The new deaths bring to 317 the number of people who have died from COVID-19 since the first case in March 2020.
Ten other COVID-19 patients also died, but their deaths were attributed to pre-existing health conditions, adding to the non-COVID death tally which stands at 168.
Of the 603 new coronavirus infections reported today as well, 223 are from the West and 380 are from the central. division. There have been 293 new recoveries reported since the last update, which means that there are now 24,420 active cases. 19,088 active cases are in the Central Division and 5,332 in the West.
There have been 37,512 cases during the outbreak that started in April 2021, and a total of 37, 582 cases in Fiji since the first case was reported in March 2020, with 12,677 recoveries.
