COVID-19 Fiji: Deaths of COVID positive patients surpass 1000-mark

More than 1000 COVID-19 positive patients in Fiji have died during the outbreak after 10 more fatalities were announced for the 24-hour period ending at 8am yesterday.

Of the 10, four were death from COVID and six death with COVID, taking the total number of people who have died from COVID in the current outbreak to 581 and the latter, 425 for a total of 1,006 deaths, and 1008 since March 2020.

The four COVID-19 caused deaths occurred between 21 July and 18 August and could not be reported sooner because of “delay in the issuance of the official death certificates.”

As with majority of previous delayed cases, they were all unvaccinated, died at home and were recorded in the central division.

Deaths

The first COVID-19 death to report is a 72-year-old man from Suva who died at home on 18 August. He was not vaccinated.

The second COVID-19 death to report is a 68-year-old woman from Suva who died at home on 7 August. She was not vaccinated.

The third COVID-19 death to report is an 84-year-old man from Suva who died at home on 21 July. He was not vaccinated.

The fourth COVID-19 death to report is an 82-year-old woman from Suva who died at home on 22 July. She was not vaccinated.

As of 18 September, the national 7 days rolling average of COVID-19 deaths per day is 0.6. The 7 days rolling average for COVID-19 deaths per day in the central Division is 0.3 and 0.3 in the western Division.

Recoveries and Active Cases

There have also been 170 new recoveries since the last update, which means that there are now 12,979active cases in Fiji. There have been 50,377 cases during the outbreak that started in April 2021, and a total of 50,447 cases in Fiji since the first case was reported in March 2020, with 36,460 recoveries.
