COVID-19 Fiji: 160 new cases and five deaths

Fiji recorded 160 new cases of COVID-19, of which 72 are from the central division, and 88 from the western division including four on Naviti.

Five deaths recorded in late July and early August in the central division were also announced COVID-19 deaths last night. There was a delay in the issuance of their official death certificates. All were unvaccinated and died at home.

Total active cases stand at 14,115 of which 3,238 are in the central division, 10,748 in the western division, four in the northern division in Macuata and 125 in the eastern division, all on Kadavu.

There have been 48,083 cases during the outbreak that started in April 2021. We have recorded a total of 48,153 cases in Fiji since the first case was reported in March 2020, with 33,168 recoveries.

The newly confirmed deaths bring to 525 total COVID-19 deaths in Fiji, 523 of which were recorded during the outbreak that started in April this year.

Non-COVID Deaths

Seven more COVID-19 positive patients whose deaths were attributed to other causes were also recorded, taking the total number of COVID-19 patients who have died from other causes to 345.
