Coca-Cola games called off as COVID19 case confirmed

The 2020 Coca-Cola Games National Championship  has been called off as part of measures to contain the spread COVID19.

The Ministry of Education made a statement on the afternoon of March 19 after Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama’s address to the nation to confirm the first novel coronavirus case in Fiji.

A 27 year old flight attendant from Lautoka is Fiji’s case of COVID19.

“In view of the current situation, the ministry would like to advise the general public that the 2020 Coke games has been cancelled”.

Organised by the Fiji Secondary School Amateur Athletics Association’s, the Coca-Cola games were scheduled for 16-18 April at the ANZ National Stadium.

The games are dubbed the biggest event in the South Pacific, attracting over 3000 athletes alone from all over the country. 

Ratu Kadavulevu School and Adi Cakobau School are the defending champions.

Nine Fiji Secondary School zone competitions which lead up to the national finals have already been completed.

Meanwhile, schools in the Lautoka school district are shut down indefinitely from midnight March 19.
