Baby survives after Dad allegedly drove vehicle into river

A nine-month-old baby escaped serious injuries, after his father allegedly drove a vehicle, with the infant onboard, into a river in Nadi over the weekend.

The father who is in his 20s, who survived as well, will be appearing in a magistrates court today, charged with one count of attempted murder.

Fiji Police said prior to the incident on Saturday, the man got into a heated argument with his wife at their Namotomoto home in Nadi. He then forcefully took their son and drove towards Namotomoto Bridge.

At the bridge, “he is alleged to have intentionally driven his vehicle into the river.”

Bystanders managed to save them both.

The baby was treated at the Nadi Hospital.
