Australia and New Zealand rope in Fijians in squad for Oceania 7s

New Zealand and Australia have collectively named four Fijian players in their squads for the Oceania 7s next week, with the latter calling up former Wallabies’ Samu Kerevi.

Kerevi last played for the Wallabies at the 2019 Rugby World Cup. He has been playing for the Suntory rugby club in Japan for the last 2 seasons. He returned to Australia at the end of the Japanese domestic club competition last month as he pushes for Olympic selection.

Also looking to impress their way into the All Blacks 7s Olympic squad are Vilimoni Koroi, Amanaki Nicole and Akuila Rokolisoa. They have been named in the side’s 19-member squad.

The PacificAus Sports Oceania Sevens is the last hit-out for the All-Blacks Sevens team before a 12-member Olympic Squad is set to be named on 30 June. The tournament starts next Friday 25 June, with Australia playing Fiji in the opening game.

Australia Squad:  Pama Fou, Nick Malouf (c), Joe Pincus, Henry Hutchison, Lewis Holland, Lachlan Anderson, Josh Coward, Samu Kerevi, Dietrich Roache, Dylan Pietsch, Josh Turner, Lachlan Miller, Tim Anstee.

All Blacks Squad:  Kurt Baker, Caleb Clarke, Dylan Collier, Scott Curry, Sam Dickson, Trael Joass, Andrew Knewstubb, Vilimoni Koroi, Ngarohi McGarvey-Black, Tim Mikkelson, Sine Molia, Etene Nanai-Seturo, Tone Ng Shiu, Amanaki Nicole, Akuila Rokolisoa, William Warbrick, Regan Ware, Joe Webber and Kitiona Vai.
