The Fijian Drua stand to lose potential revenue of more than $30,000 in introducing two new ticket tiers, said to be more affordable, for the Highlanders game in Suva at month-end, following backlash to prices announced earlier.
To accommodate for the new prices, the Fijian Super Rugby franchise has essentially split the grass and cement embankments.
Tickets for the portion of the grass embankment towards the Nasese seawall (closest to the VIP booths), will now sell for $20 for adults and $10 for kids under 12 as opposed to initial pricing of $30 and $15 respectively. The initial pricing however remains for the remainder of the grass embankment, otherwise known as the Bronze section, whilst the new section has been named Waitui zone.
The concrete embankment is split into lower and upper levels, with the lower level seating category (“Matasawa zone”) priced at $40 for adults and $20 for kids under 12. The higher level seating on the concrete embankment, which are best viewing seats on that side of the ground, remain categorised as Silver and priced at $75 flat.
Regarding the potential revenue loss, Fijian CEO Brian Thorburn said they would cover that within their budget.
“We’ve said in the past week that we are listening and learning,” he said. “The feedback from fans with a genuine desire to cheer on their favourite Drua players against Aaron Smith and the Highlanders was for more affordable ticket tiers. We have worked quickly to create new ticket categories in a way that wouldn’t impact patrons who have bought the Bronze and Silver tickets already. Those Zones retain their pricing because of locations relative to the new categories introduced today.”
The new categories will be available for sale from tomorrow, Friday 22 April from the Fiji Sports Council Suva Office, Post Fiji outlets Fiji-wide, and a number of Jack’s of Fiji outlets on Viti Levu.
