Fiji Pol: Proposed party reapplies for 2022 polls

March 22, 2022

Based out of Sigatoka, the proposed ‘We Unite Fiji’ party has reapplied to contest the 2022 General Elections, three weeks after their first request was rejected.

Registrar of Political Parties Mohammed Saneem confirmed having received the proposed party’s second application and have proceeded with the registration process.

The proposed party first applied on 7 February 2022, but it was rejected by the registrar because it failed to meet the minimum required members for the northern and central divisions as outlined in the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding, and Disclosures) Act 2013.

In party disclosures that were published in one of the dailies, the proposed party located at Sunflower Hill Villa along the Queens Highway in Mataqe listed its president as Ratu Jolame Vosailagi, Mere Naseka Diligolevu, and Subhashni Lata as VPs, Milinia Vaqa as general secretary and Manoa Veremalua as its national treasurer.

Registration of parties looking to contest the 2022 General Elections is open until the writ of election is issued. The earliest date that the writ can be issued is on 26 May 2022, two months from now, and the latest on 26 November 2022 based on the 9 July 2022-9 January 2023 possible election date timeline.
