COVID-19 Fiji: 31 new cases in Kadavu, 2 in Malolo and 21 in Yasawa

Fiji has recorded 253 new coronavirus infections with 59 in the central division, 31 from the eastern division, all on Kadavu, and 163 from the western division including 21 in Yasawa and two in Solevu village, Malolo island.

Total active cases on Kadavu have increased to 301, and on Malolo, 34, after three more people reportedly recovered overnight, along with 160 others from across the country.

Three new deaths- two in the western division and one in the central division – were also reported overnight, all of them unvaccinated and were pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

There have now been 508 deaths due to COVID-19 in Fiji, with 506 of these deaths during the outbreak that started in April this year. As of 29 August, the national 7 days rolling average of COVID-19 deaths per day is 5. The 7 day rolling average for COVID-19 deaths per day in the Central Division is 1 and in the Western Division is 4.

Non-COVID Deaths

There have been two more deaths of COVID-19 positive patients, taking the total to 317 . These deaths have been classified as non-COVID deaths by their doctors. The doctors have determined that these deaths were caused by a serious pre-existing medical condition and not COVID-19.

Active Cases

There are now 16,352 active cases, of which 5021 are in the central division, 11,025 in the western division, five in the northern division (in Nabouwalu and Macuata) and 301 in the eastern division (all in Kadavu).

Total Cases in Fiji

There have been 47,439 cases during the outbreak that started in April 2021. There have been a total of 47,509 cases in Fiji since the first case was reported in March 2020. Total recoveries stand at 30,332.
