Three people died over the Easter weekend in which Fiji’s Police recorded at least three vehicle accidents in the West, a house fire in Labasa, and an all-out brawl in Suva.
Of the three dead, a woman aged 47 years and a 22-year-old man died in two separate accidents in Sigatoka on Friday, 2 April and Monday, 5 April, while a 36-year-old woman allegedly jumped to her death off the Rewa Bridge on Sunday, 4 April.
On the same day, three other people were hospitalised following a two-vehicle accident on Naviyago Bridge in Lautoka.
In Labasa, two days earlier on Friday, 2 April, three people of Naodamu were left without a home after their three-bedroom flat was destroyed in a fire. They were attending a church service when the incident happened.
In the evening of the same day in Nabua, Suva, two girls were reportedly assaulted and robbed of their phones along Sukanaivalu Road, which resulted in an all-out brawl through Saturday, prompting police intervention. At least two people are in custody over the incident that reportedly involved about 50 people.
On Monday, 5 April, authorities recovered the body of the 39-year-old woman, before attending to the death of a 22-year-old man of Nayawa in Sigatoka. Police alleged that the deceased lost control of his vehicle while overtaking, veered off the road, and bumped an EFL post. He died on the spot.
Police investigations are continuing in all cases.
