Fijian Police arrested 49 more people across the country last night, bringing the total number of arrests over breach of curfew hours to 117. Sixty-eight (68) people were arrested on day one of police curfew operations when it came into effect Monday, 31 March.
In a statement, Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho said of the 49 people, 18 were arrested in the Western Division, 12 in the Southern Division, ten (10) in the Eastern Division, five (5) in the North and four (4) in the Central Division.
“Majority of those arrested were found loitering in public places while some continued to move around without any proper documentation of authorization from their employers,” Brig-Gen Qiliho said.
Meanwhile, the 68 people will be produced in court today in Nausori, Nasinu, Suva and in the West.
If convicted for disobedience of a lawful order, those who breach the covid19 curfew can be fined up to $10,000 or be jailed up to five years.
