Fijian authorities made numerous arrests in recent days for drug-related offenses and suspected thefts.
Assistant Commissioner of Police for Operations Livai Driu said they would step up drug operations into the festive season, involving officers from the Fiji Detector Dog Unit (FDDU) and the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service.
In one operation, a joint team from the FDDU and Narcotics Bureau raided a home in Tamavua, seizing a ziplock bag containing suspected cocaine and more than $1,700 in suspected proceeds of crime.
Another joint operation in Caubati, conducted by the FDDU and Southern Division Task Force following a tip-off, led to the arrest of two people. The search yielded marijuana, methamphetamine, stolen property, and related items, with the suspects in custody at the Valelevu Police Station.
Operations in the North resulted in the arrest of a man found with suspected methamphetamine and marijuana on a boat along the Labasa River. Meanwhile, a joint raid in Lautoka, involving the FDDU, Narcotics, and Western Division Taskforce, uncovered marijuana and suspected proceeds of crime.
Farms are also being targeted in these operations.
The Fiji Police Operations head has commended the community’s support in the fight against drugs through the sharing of information.
