Testing of Viria Water Treatment Plant Starts as Major Construction Works Ends

October 5, 2023

The major construction works of the Viria Water Treatment Plant in Naitasiri have been completed and are currently undergoing phased testing, according to a statement released by the Water Authority of Fiji.

Their team, in collaboration with contractors, is conducting thorough testing of various plant components, pumps, and reservoirs to ensure they are fully compliant with the design specifications.

The completion of the construction project aligns with the targeted date of Fiji Day 2023.

WAF CEO Dr Amit Chanan visited the site yesterday to inspect the facility, which is expected to alleviate the current water supply deficit in the greater Suva area by adding 40 million litres per day. This improvement will benefit approximately 360,000 people residing within the Lami-Suva-Nausori corridor.

Currently, WAF serves approximately 153,000 water connections, and the daily water consumption averages around 54,000 litres.

The total project cost stands at approximately $270 million.
