Each of Fiji’s 42-member Fijiana Drua contingent, including 10 officials, will receive a bonus of $8000 for winning the Super W competition this year, their second on the trot.
Fiji’s cabinet made the decision, one of eight reached during their meeting this week, but did not say where the funds will be sourced, or how it will be paid out and when, only saying that it was in recognition of their success in Australian Rugby Women’s Super Rugby conference.
The Fijiana first joined the Super W competition in 2022, creating history by winning the title in their first year, and followed up with their second this year despite a core of experienced players have departed.
“The reward is in recognition of this significant achievement for the nation and women’s rugby in Fiji,” the cabinet said, adding that the decision “is in pursuit of government’s commitment to the sports sector especially to teams and athletes with remarkable achievement in the World Sports segment.”
Peoples’ Coalition Cabinet met in Suva yesterday, their 10th since taking office post 2022 election.
