$300 Million Grant For Vanua Levu Road Projects

Work is set to begin soon on three different roads in Vanua Levu costing close to $300 million dollars given as a grant by the Chinese government.

At a press briefing today, Chinese ambassador Zhou Jian expressed his government’s intention to improve infrastructure for Fiji and Pacific islands.

“When you fix roads it makes access much easier for those in the rural areas. It helps a family get their food quickly to the markets and makes life more bearable.”

“So much negative comments have been given about China and I just want to reiterate here that we only want to help you have access to good facilities.”

Commissioner Northern Uraia Rainima said the developments have come as an added blessing.

“The projects are from Nabouwalu to Nasolo, Nabalebale to Dawaro and the Natewa road. These roads have been in poor conditions for so long so we are very grateful to the Chinese government.”
