A march-through Fiji’s capital city Suva is planned for today, starting at 10.30am, to mark and celebrate the Fiji 7s team’s successful campaign at the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Cape Town, South Africa early this week.
With the Melrose Cup, the team will depart the Flea Market, opposite the Suva Bus Stand for the HFC Stadium where formalities are planned, presided over by Fijian President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere.
Confirming the planned celebration, Fiji Rugby Union chairman Commodore Humphrey Tawake said the event will culminate with the New Zealand Wahine Maori versus Fijiana XVs match-up. The game is scheduled to start at 6pm.
But before the Test match, Army women will take on their Police counterparts in a warm-up match scheduled for 3.30pm, about 40 minutes after the RWC7s win celebration formalities. Admission is free.
The HFC Stadium will open at 9.30 am for members of the public keen to take the lead, to await the team’s arrival at the Laucala Bay-based venue.
