The Western Division’s police command is in quarantine after a senior female police officer based in Lautoka who recently returned from Italy, was isolated for COVID19.
Fiji Police said the female officer had isolated herself upon return to Fiji and had been cleared to return to work.
“She however later displayed symptoms of COVID19 and has been isolated by medical authorities in a different location.”
Medical authorities in Lautoka have placed under quarantine the Fiji Police Force Western Division Headquarters senior officers including Divisional Police Commander West Senior Superintendent Surend Sami and clerical staff.
“SSP Sami and his team continue to operate from within the confines of the building,” a Fiji Police statement via its twitter account said.
“They are adhering to the directive like any responsible Fijian and will isolate themselves at the headquarters until cleared by medical authorities.”
It is unclear how many officers have since been tested.
