Fiji’s elections body intends to develop a voter assistance guide for persons with disabilities to facilitate their participation in the conduct of the country’s election.
Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem told attendees during the Election Disability Access Working Group’s meeting today that the Fijian Elections Office would be working with the SPC and the International Foundation for Electoral System to develop the guide.
“We are currently in the midst of finalising our terms of reference with IFES and SPC before we proceed to develop these guidelines,” Saneem said.
Saneem adds that he looks forward to organising some more workshops with the EDAWG so that election information can be shared with the Organizations of Persons with Disabilities [OPDs] and their members.
The meeting was also the first for the working group this year to discuss the FEO’s plans and preparations for the 2022 General Elections.
