Versatile Lock Narokete Poised to Face Fijiana Drua in Super W Opener

Former versatile lock for the Fijian Women’s Drua side, Doreen Narokete is poised to go head-to-head against her former teammates in round one of the Super W 2024 competition.

She has been named in the Queensland Reds’ squad, facing off against the Fijiana Drua in the opening round.

Narokete, 21, recently joined the Reds on a two-year contract after being part of the Fijiana Drua outfit since their inaugural season in 2022.

Before her time with the Drua, Narokete played for Nadi Aviators and later joined Suva Rugby Club Striders. Fijiana 7s coach Saiasi Fula noticed her talent, leading to her inclusion in the extended squad.  Narokete began her sporting career in touch rugby, representing Fiji in the 2019 World Cup at the age of 16.

Narokete is among a handful of Fijian players named to feature for Super W clubs other than the Fijiana Drua. Other players include Jiowana Sauto and Laiema Bosenavulagi for the Melbourne Rebels, Iris Verebalavu, Tabua Tuinakauvuda, and Kolora Lomani for the Brumbies and Sera Naiqama for the Waratahs.

The Super W 2024 competition kicks off on Friday, March 15, with the Reds and Fijiana Drua game scheduled for Sunday, March 17.
