December 4, 2024

A new group of Peace Corps volunteers from the United States of America are in the country for a 2 year service on Vanua Levu.

Known as Group 99, the volunteers were yesterday officially welcomed at the US Embassy in Suva after spending 10 weeks in Naitasiri as part of their induction exercise.

Country Program Director Ken Cokanasiga said they were excited about the group’s work on Vanua Levu.

“It’s been a while since we’ve had a group go to Vanua Levu so this is an exciting time for us to see the group go there and they themselves are looking forward to working with the communities they are going to.”

Patrick Hodson, a volunteer, said he was already enjoying the time in Fiji already.

“This is such a great learning experience for us, we will gain alot of knowledge and we hope to impart help to the communities that we will go to.”

The group depart for Vanua Levu today and will serve in communities across Bua, Macuata and Cakaudrove.
