Tui Macuata accepts Fiji presidency nomination

Fiji’s Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has nominated Tui Macuata Ratu Wiliame Katonivere who has also reportedly accepted to assume the country’s Presidency.

“I will move his name tomorrow on the floor of Parliament,” Bainimarama shared via his social media account.

“Nor can I imagine a worthier successor to the proud mantle of leadership that President Konrote has established, at home as a pillar of national unity, and abroad, as a champion for peace and inclusive and sustainable development.”

Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote’s term finishes this month.

Ratu Wiliame is currently the ruling FijiFirst party president. He is chairman of the Macuata Provincial Council and Pine Group of Companies and also sits on the boards of Fiji Airports, Fiji Sugar Corporation and Rewa Rice Limited.
