Firm actions taken against police officers who have broken the law have led to a drop in complaints against them compared to the same time last year.
And Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu said irrespective of their work, police officers will be taken to task if found to be in the wrong.
“The reduction is also reflective of the tough approach taken in addressing issues of ill-disciplined, and we know there is still room for improvement. We are continuously addressing officers and supervisors, on the need to ensure professional service delivery at all times”
“Complaints against police recorded a decrease of 18%, with 231 cases registered, when compared to the 283 reports last year.”
The complaints were around neglect of duty.
“Majority of the reports against police were related to Conduct (116 cases) and Neglect of Duty (84). Cases of conduct were linked to ill-discipline, while neglect of duty, were linked to poor service delivery.”
