Part of the Suva Bus Stand will be closed for 30 days, starting tomorrow, for major infrastructure upgrades aimed at ensuring a safer and more efficient transport hub.

The affected areas include the entrance from MPI Carpark to the Western, Rural, Navua, Narere, and Suva-Nausori bus bays.

Temporary Relocations:

  • Western, Rural, Navua & Narere routes → MPI Carpark
  • Suva-Nausori routes → In front of the Flea Market
  • Terminals 1, 2 & 3 → Will continue operating with a new entry point via Rodwell Road

SCC Acting CEO Tevita Boseiwaqa reassured commuters that every effort will be made to minimise disruptions, with SCC enforcement officers and police managing traffic. Commuters are advised to plan ahead, expect delays, and follow signage.

“The Council acknowledges that this temporary closure may inconvenience daily commuters. However, these upgrades are crucial for modernising our transport infrastructure and ensuring a safer, more efficient bus stand,” said Boseiwaqa. “To manage the situation, SCC enforcement officers and the Fiji Police Force will be stationed at key locations to assist with traffic management and passenger direction. Clear signage will also be placed throughout the area to guide commuters.”

The upgrades aim to address flooding, congestion, uneven surfaces, and drainage issues. Initial groundwork, including culvert installations to improve drainage and stormwater management, was completed last year.
