Yasa is now a category one cyclone and is expected to strengthen to a category three system by Wednesday as it lingers between Fiji and Vanuatu
Fijian authorities warn of heavy rain and strong winds, calling on the general public to take the necessary precaution to secure their lives and livelihoods.
As a category one system, Yasa could cause some damage minor damage to weak structured houses, plantation and break tree branches. Landslides and flash-flooding of low lying areas could occur as well.
Residents of Coral Coast, the whole of Vanua Levu, the Yasawa group and maritime islands are warned to brace for strong winds and flooding.
In Rotuma, gale-force winds and high seas becoming very rough with damaging heavy swells. Over the island, rain, heavy at times with thunderstorms is expected. Sea flooding of low lying coastal areas is also expected during high tides.
