People are advised to turn off appliances, unplug electronics, and stay away from windows even while indoors.
A warning released by the Fiji Meteorological Service says a severe thunderstorm alert is now in place and expected to affect major parts of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.
“Stay indoors, away from windows and keep children and pets indoors as well. Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Keep clear of flooded creeks and drains Don’t walk, ride a bike or drive through flood water Unplug computers and appliances”
“A severe thunderstorm alert for heavy rainfall is now in force for Coral Coast, Southern, Northern, Eastern and interior parts of Viti Levu, Central Macuata and Cakaudrove province which includes Momi, Mavua, Magodro, Noikoro, Nadrau, Komave, Nuku, Batiwai, Namosi, Navuakece, Lutu, Lawaki, Nalaba, Navolau, Saivou, Kavula, Nailega, Sawakasa, Vugalei, Vuna, Nausori, Buretu, Rewa, Wailevu West, Savusavu, Koroalau, Seaqaqa, Sasa, Wairiki, Sasa, Labasa, Nadogo, Saqani, Vaturova, Natewa, Vuna and Waiyevo.”
“Severe thunderstorms will likely produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours. Strong and gusty winds expected during heavy falls.”
